About Kinesiology/FAQs

What is kinesiology?

Kinesiology is an alternative and complementary therapy based upon the principles of traditional Chinese medicine. Kinesiology uses muscle response testing as a way of communicating with the body. Through muscle tests kinesiologists gain an understanding of what the main issues are and what the body needs to support it at that time.

The approach is completely holistic, with a kinesiology assessment taking into account emotional, physical, chemical and energetical aspects that may be stopping a person from getting better. This 360 degree approach, and focus on the individual rather than the condition itself, is one of the reasons why kinesiology is so often helpful in getting to the bottom of stubborn health issues.

Kinesiology concentrates on putting the body back into its natural balance, thus enabling and supporting the body's innate healing ability.  Recommendations to support this process may include dietary and lifestyle adjustments, nutritional supplementation and flower essences.

The therapy is also used to help people achieve personal and business related goals, and work through issues such as self-esteem and confidence.

Kinesiology is a gentle and relaxing therapy, and many clients report feeling calmer and lighter after a kinesiology session.

How does muscle response testing work?

Muscle response testing involves the client resisting light pressure placed upon muscles that are associated with their problem. Each muscle corresponds with an organ and an acupuncture meridian.

Biofeedback obtained from muscle testing identifies imbalances in the meridian energy circuits, helping to determine:

  • the location of the imbalance/problem
  • the type of imbalance - mental, physical, chemical, energetic or structural
  • what is required to address the imbalance and support the body

Muscle testing is non invasive, painless and suitable for all ages, including babies and the infirm.  Where kinesiology appointments are carried out online or via the phone I test myself on your behalf. More on remote sessions.

What happens in a kinesiology session?

Before your session I will ask you to complete a questionnaire regarding your health history. In the first session we will spend some time discussing this and your current health challenges.

I will carry out a series of muscle response tests which will indicate the areas we need to focus on.  Balancing techniques can include holding reflex points to improve blood supply to the affected area, massage to stimulate lymph supply and drainage (helping to remove toxins) and meridian tracing to promote the healthy flow of energy throughout the body.

At the end of the session I will suggest a plan, which may include nutritional support and lifestyle changes.

The assessment is done through clothing, there is no need to undress, and loose or stretchy clothing is recommended.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends very much on the health issue and how long you have had it. As a guide, most clients require between three to six visits. Long term issues may require more, but whatever the issue most clients start to see changes early on.

After experiencing the benefits of kinesiology many clients choose to have regular sessions, either on a monthly basis or two to three times a year, as a way of maintaining good health.  Having regular kinesiology sessions can help to prevent issues from occurring, a bit like having your car serviced!
